How to Replace Broken Display on OnePlus 5

Hello, guys today we'll explain step by step how to replace a broken screen on your OnePlus 5 smartphone. You'll need only a few things: A OnePlus 5 replacement LCD screen with the frame, some tools, and your time.

1) Remove sim card tray

Take your sim card eject tool and use it in order to remove the sim card tray. Just place it into the small hole located near the rear cameras on the edge of the phone and press firmly to eject the tray.

2) Remove two T2 screws

Remove the two T2 screws that are located on each side of the USB-C port on the bottom edge.

3) Lift the back cover

Take a suction cup and place it on as close to the center of the bottom side (near the USB charging port). Pull onto the suction cup in order to make the small gap and insert an opening pick inside that gap. Now that you have inserted an opening pick slide it all around the telephone in order to release the back cover from clips holding it to the chassis. Then simply swing the back cover around and rest it on the top of the exposed frame.

 4) Disconnect back flex cable

First, remove the 2.6mm Philips screw holding the cable bracket (above the battery). Then simply remove the cover and take a tip of a spudger to pry up and disconnect the back cover flex cable from its socket.

5) Remove the back cover

Now that you have released the whole back cover from the chassis. Simply remove it and let it stay aside.

6) Disconnect battery

Once again use a tip of a spudger in order to pry up and disconnect the battery connector from its socket.

7) Remove primary speaker

First, take a Philips screwdriver in order to unscrew 6 screws holding the speaker in place. Then insert the flat end of a spudger into the corner of a speaker to pry it up and simply remove it.

8) Disconnect the interconnect cable

Use the point of a spudger or the tip of your finger to pry up and disconnect the flex cable from its socket.

9) Remove the battery

Peel the green pull tab up from the battery. Then, a strong and constant force pulls the green pull-tab upwards until the battery loosens from its recces. Then simply remove it.

10) Remove daughterboard

Take the point of a spudger to pry up and disconnect fingerprint scanner and antenna interconnect cable from their sockets on the daughterboard. Then using a flat end spudger pry up the whole daughterboard from its recess. Simply remove it once it's released from the frame.

11) Remove the fingerprint scanners tape

Slide the flat end of a spudger underneath the tape covering the fingerprint scanner. Then simply pry and peel the tape.

12) Disconnect everything from the motherboard

Take a tip of a spudger to pry up and disconnect the following cables from connected to the motherboard: display interconnect cable(located on the edge of the motherboard), antenna interconnect cable(located near vibration motor), small square antenna connector(located near the top edge)

13) Remove the motherboard

Remove seven 2.6mm Philips screws highlighted on the picture below that are securing the motherboard. Then simply use your hand to lift the motherboard out of its socket and remove it.

14) Remove earpiece speaker

Insert the point of a spudger under the top side of the earpiece module and pry it up to loosen it from its socket. Then simply remove it.

15) Remove vibration motor

Slide an opening pick underneath the vibration motor's flex pad and pry it up off the frame. Then simply remove it using bare hands.

16) Remove volume and power button

Take a pair of tweezers and use them to pry up and remove black tape on both of the buttons. Then pry up and loosen the buttons using spudger. Simply remove them using tweezers. Volume buttons are located on the right edge of the phone and power is on the left edge of the phone.

17) Remove the screen

Peel and remove the plastic battery liner from the frame.

Use the point of a spudger to pry up and disconnect the following connectors: display connector(located on the left corner of the frame), interconnect cable socket(also on the left corner of the frame). Then remove the whole display interconnect cable.

With using your fingers transfer antenna interconnect located on the right edge of the frame back into the new frame.

18) Reassemble everything with the new screen

Your OnePlus 5 is completely disassembled. Now take your new screen and reassemble your phone by following this guide in reverse order, and then test everything up to make sure you did everything properly.

Test everything up

Congratulations, you changed your OnePlus 5 screen all by yourself. Now just test a few things to make sure everything is working properly:
-Test the brightness of the display.
-Test the touchscreen, select an app, and drag it all around the display. If it is following your finger everything is fine.
