Google Pixel 8 has an impressive dual rear camera setup with a 50MP wide and a 12MP ultrawide camera. You can take high-quality pictures and capture HD videos with your Pixel 8. But you have to replace the rear cameras of your Pixel 8 if they are taking blurry images.
Let’s proceed to replace the rear-facing camera assembly of your Google Pixel 8!
Step 1 Prepare Tools For Pixel 8 Disassembly
Collect all these necessary mobile repairing tools to replace the rear-facing cameras of your Pixel 8:
- A Hot Air gun or Hair Dryer to heat the phone
- A suction cup to firmly hold the phone
- SIM Card Tray ejector pin to eject the SIM Tray
- A Plastic opening pick or tool to slice adhesive glue around the edges of the phone
- A set of screwdrivers (Phillips or Torx) to unfasten the screws
- A spudger to pry up the press connectors
- A pair of tweezers to hold and remove mobile components
- Isopropyl Alcohol to melt adhesive
- New adhesive to attach the screen to the phone frame
- Cotton cloth to clean the old adhesive
Step 2 Switch Off The Google Pixel 8
- Detach all the cables from your Pixel 8.
- Press the volume up and the power button together.
- Wait for a while.
- A shutdown menu will pop up on the phone screen
- Select the power-off option to switch off your Google Pixel 8.
Step 3 Eject The SIM Tray
- Locate a small hole near the SIM Card Tray.
- Inject and push the ejector pin into this hole.
- The SIM Tray will partially pop out.
- Remove the SIM Card Tray.
- Keep it aside.
Step 4 Heat All The Phone Sides
- Adjust the medium heat settings on your hot air gun or hair dryer. You can also use a hot plate to heat your Pixel 8.
- Keep the hot air gun at least 5 cm away from the phone.
- Heat the phone edges for 5 to 10 minutes.
- Do not overheat your phone as too much heat can damage the internal components of your Pixel 8.
Step 5 Attach A Suction Cup
- Take a medium-sized suction cup with a strong handle.
- Fix the suction cup near the bottom of the phone screen.
- Gently pull the suction cup handle.
- A gap will appear between the screen and the phone frame.
Step 6 Insert An Opening Tool
- Take a plastic opening tool or pick.
- Use a meter rule to mark 3mm on the opening pick.
- Do not insert the opening pick in the gap over 3mm.
- Remove the suction cup.
Step 7 Slice the Bottom Adhesive
- Heat will melt the adhesive around the edges of the phone. Now, it's time to slice the adhesive around all the edges.
- To cut the bottom adhesive glue, move the opening pick from the phone's lower right corner to the lower left corner.
Step 8 Cut Through The Left Adhesive
- Slide the opening tool from the lower left to the upper left corner to cut the left adhesive effectively.
- Always remember there is a screen cable on the left side of your Pixel 8. Carefully cut the left adhesive without damaging the screen cable.
Step 9 Remove Upper Edge Adhesive
- Now slide the opening tool from the phone's upper left to the upper right corner to slice the upper edge adhesive.
Step 10 Cut Right Side Adhesive
- Keep sliding the opening tool from the upper right to the lower right corner to cut through the right-side adhesive.
Step 11 Prop Up The Screen
- Hold the screen cover with your fingertips.
- Open the screen like a book.
Step 12 Remove The Screen Cable Cover
- Hold the screen upright.
- Pry up the screen cable cover with a spudger or plastic pick.
- Remove the screen cable cover.
Step 13 Disconnect The Screen
- Unclip the screen cable’s press connector with a spudger.
Step 14 Remove The Screen
- After disconnecting the screen cable from the phone, detach the screen.
Step 15 Remove The Plastic Buffer
- Pry up the plastic buffer with a spudger or plastic pick.
- Now, peel off the plastic buffer with the help of a spudger.
Step 16 Unfasten The USB-C Port Bracket
- There are two 5 mm long screws securing the USB-C Port Bracket.
- Remove these two screws with a screwdriver.
- Keep these screws in a safe place as you will need them during the reassembly of your Pixel 8.
Step 17 Remove The USB-C Port Bracket
- Remove the USB-C Port Bracket with tweezers or your fingers from its recess.
Step 18 Unfasten The Bottom Speaker
- Use a screwdriver to remove the one 5mm long screw of the bottom speaker.
Step 19 Remove The Bottom Speaker
- Lift the bottom speaker with a spudger from its recess.
- Hold and remove the bottom speaker.
Step 20 Remove The 5G mmWave Antenna.
- Use the opening pick to disconnect the 5G mmWave antenna cable from the logic board.
- Heat the 5G mmWave antenna for 2 to 3 minutes to melt the adhesive at the antenna.
- Slice the adhesive around the antenna with the opening pick.
- Adjust the position of the antenna cable so it will not come in the way during the disassembly of the Midframe.
Step 21 Separate The Black Graphite Sheet
- Insert an opening pick or a spudger under the upper right corner of the black graphite sheet.
- Gently lift the upper right corner of the black graphite sheet.
- Hold the right corner of the black graphite sheet.
- Carefully peel off the black graphite sheet. You have to replace this sheet while reassembling your Google Pixel 8.
Step 22 Unfasten The Midframe
- There are eight 5.1mm long screws securing the midframe to its recess in the phone.
- Unfasten these eight screws with a screwdriver.
- Keep these screws in a safe place. Always ensure that these screws do not get mixed with the other screws.
- Pry up the midframe with the help of an opening pick or prying tool.
Step 23 Remove The Midframe
- Hold the midframe with your fingers.
- Remove the midframe from the phone.
Step 24 Disconnect The Battery
- Unclip the battery’s press connector to disconnect the battery from the logic board.
Step 25 Disconnect The Wide Rear Camera
- Pry up the wide rear camera press connector with a spudger to disconnect it from the phone.
Step 26 Unfasten The Wide Rear Camera
- Use a screwdriver to unfasten the two 5.1mm long screws securing the Wide Rear Camera to its recess.
Step 27 Remove The Wide Rear Camera
- Lift the Wide Rear Camera of Pixel 8 from its recess with a spudger.
- Remove the Wide Rear Camera.
Step 28 Disconnect Ultrawide Back Camera
- Disconnect the press connector of the ultrawide back camera from the logic board.
Step 29 Remove Ultra Wide Back Camera
- Lift the ultrawide rear camera with a prying tool from its recess.
- Remove the ultrawide rear camera with the help of your fingers or a pair of tweezers.
Step 30 Install The New Ultrawide Camera
- Install the new rear ultrawide camera to its recess.
- Connect the press connector of the new ultrawide camera to the logic board.
Step 31 Install The New Wide Camera
- Take a new rear wide camera for your Google Pixel 8.
- Install the rear wide camera to its recess.
- Connect and fasten up the new rear wide camera.
Step 32 Reassembly Of The Pixel 8
Follow these steps to reassemble your Google Pixel 8:
- Reconnect all the press connectors. Scew up the midframe and USB-C Port bracket.
- Reconnect the antenna and apply the black graphite sheet.
- Rub Isopropyl alcohol around the edges of the phone frame with a cotton bud.
- The isopropyl alcohol will melt the old adhesive.
- Wipe away the old adhesive with a clean cotton cloth.
- Apply new adhesive around the edges of the phone frame.
- Reconnect the screen to the phone.
- Attach the screen to the phone frame.
